On October 2, the HHS announced an extension of the current PHE to begin October 23 and extend 90 days to January 21, 2021. HHS Secretary announcement. This means that PTs and PTAs in private practice and facility-based physical therapy providers will continue to have access to the temporary Medicare regulatory waivers and new rules that afford providers flexibility to respond to COVID-19 pandemic, including telehealth coverage. This overrides any regulations regarding eligibility for telehealth payment published in the 2021 proposed Physicians’ Fee Schedule Rule.
