CMS announced they will hold providers’ claims beginning April 1 pending congressional action on the extension of the sequestration reduction suspension.
The MAC’s confirmed that claims paid with the reduction applied would be automatically reprocessed should the suspension be extended.
On March 28, the U.S. Senate passed a compromise bill to extend the moratorium on the Medicare Sequestration for a nine-months (through the end of 2021). The House must pass this legislation when it resumes in mid-April.
The current moratorium on the -2% Medicare sequestration expires on March 31. This will result in a temporary period beginning April 1 during which the -2% Medicare sequestration will be in effect. CMS will hold claims submitted on and after April 1 until Congress addresesed the legislation. Claims paid with the reduction applied would be automatically reprocessed should the suspension be extended.
On March 18, Xavier Bacerra was confirmed as HHS Secretary by a 50-49 vote in the Senate.
Susan Collins of Maine was the only Republican to cross the aisle to support the nominee. As a representative from CA, Secretary Bacerra was a strong supporter of PT issues.
